Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, and a conductor’s cap.
It was easily one of my favourite shows of Shivering Songs;
It was a warm moment in a -30°C week.
These fellas kept apologizing for playing waltz after waltz, but they didn’t realize just how welcome it was.
This recording is their rendition of “Leland’s Waltz,” a tune I had never heard before.
As with any good folk band, I loved hearing them draw from such a deep repertoire.
Their originals were beautiful of course, but I’ve always believed that a healthy repertoire gives more weight to a band’s originals.
The show was downtempo, shaped by the quiet, elegant setting, and the attentive audience.
My main takeaway? Now I have to see them play a flang dang.
I am aware that this is janky – It’s a work in progress.
